E. I thought that the death of Melanthios was particularly disturbing. The way I saw it in this chapter, was that all the suitors were killed off in a pretty straight forward way. They would get stabbed in the heart or shot with an arrow. Or if you were a maid, you got hung. But Melanthios, no, he got special treatment. He got tiedup in some weapons closet by his hands and feet and then hoisted up to the ceiling. That really must have hurt. Then he had to sit there for about ten minutes until odysseus’s gang came back to finish him off. “they left him, trussed in his agonizing sling” (209). Sure melanthios was a jerk and he might have deserved worse then the suitors, but the suitors death seems pretty tame compared to what happened to melanthios.
C. Why were only twelve of the maids traitors? That surprised me. The way I saw it, all of the maids had the hots for the suitors and they were all traitors. But when odysseus said only twelve maids were traitors and they should get hanged, the first thing I though was: “I thought there was only about fifteen maids to begin with”. The way the odyssey maid it seem was that there was about 10 to twelve traitor maids and then the foot wash maid and the maid who heard zeus’s thunder. So it seems like thirty-five maids did nothing for the whole book.
B. Obviously, this is probably the most important chapter in the Odyssey. It all came down to this.

(Dakota Hess) D. This book was by far one of my favorite. The details in which the suitors had died were awesome! I believe that Melanthios got what he deserved when he was hung by his feet with his limbs outstretched. I wanted Antinious ‘ death to be a bit more cruel and deserving than just being shot and killed by an arrow. I. I agree with hankmichels on “E. I thought that the death of Melanthios was particularly disturbing. The way I saw it in this chapter, was that all the suitors were killed off in a pretty straight forward way. B. this was definitely the most important book in the Odyssey because without it the rest of the book would have been leading up to nothing.

C. I don’t get why twelve of the maids traitors instead of all of them? This surprises me because the way I viewed it to be was that all maids have the spots for the suitors and they were all traitors, but when Odysseus said only twelve maids were traitors and they should get hanged. The way the odyssey Maid was it seemed like it was that there was about ten to twelve traitor maids and then the foot wash maid and the maid who heard zeus’s thunder. This seems like thirty-five maids actually did nothing, no work or anything.
I. I agree with hankmichels on “E. I thought that the death of Melanthios was particularly disturbing. B. Everything was coming down to this so I’m pretty sure the most important book would have to be this one.

D. This book was really good. Actually it was great. It was so gory and I loved it. I loved the melanthios died, being hung with his guts out and also with antinious being shot with the arrow. I love when villians get what they deserve. B. this book was a very improtant one, probably the most important in the whole book. it was the big fight scence, this is the point where anything could happen. I. I agree with hankmichels on his E. I did think the death of Melantios was disturbing but I loved it.

Stephen Ali Mr. Thomas English 10 Homework November 24, 2013 E. My reactions are to the scene at the very start of the story when Odysseus shots his arrow for the second time and kills Antinous, everyone that is there thinks that it is accident , but I love how while Antinous is on the ground dying no one really cares . I think all the suitors are kind of glad that he is dead ,because he was kind of like the person who thinks there in charge , but really they just think that and everyone hates them . Later in that scene the old man reveals that he is Odysseus, for me this is kind of a oh crap moment, because know that our leader is gone what are we going to do. Also I think it was smart to kill Antinous first, because how are all of the suitors going to act without their leader. C. when the battle starts to pick up in the palace and Athena is there does Odysseus or Telemachus know that she is there helping them in a way. G. If I was Odysseus when Eurymachus tries to calm me down and tell me Antinous was the only bad one I would have probably shot him on the spot or I would of probably kept him for last to torture him. I find it funny that Eurymachus says Antinous was the only bad suitor just to save himself. It just goes to show you how afraid the suitors are of Odysseus.

C. what kind of confused me was why were not all of the maids traitors? i mean its not like they all didnt want be with the suitors.. why single out only some of them and not all of them, that seemed to confuse me, also.. damn Odysseus has a lot of maids if ONLY 12 of them were traitors and needed to be hung. I didnt think Ithaca to be much of a city and Odysseus to have a huge palace where he can have more than 12 maids. What do you need more than 12 maids anyway? i mean no house can be that big. B. This is clearly the climax of the story and the rest of it is just falling action because everything that was planned after Odysseus reached Ithaca came down to this. this was the fourth quarter and shows what Odysseus and his son are actually made of and if he was ever gonna see his wife as his own form again. Great book I. I agree with Hank that the way that Melanthios died was truly gruesome and disturbing and not a very typical way to die. Homer is really creative with this one.. well done

D: I honestly was laughing when I read this chapter. I seem to find so much irony and so many seemingly innocent coincidences in this book, it’s just funny. I thought it was funny when Odysseus finally strings the bow through all of the axes, he first kills Antinous with the arrow, and everyone thought it was an accident. And then Odysseus changes form and everyone practically pees themselves out of fear. Know, if I remember properly how the order of the stringing of the bow went down, it was Telemachus first, and then Antinous was the last suitor before Odysseus. And if you guys remember properly, Antinous was the only suitor to realize that Odysseus would be the only one to string the bow, and he felt sad for what he had done. Obviously Odysseus has no sympathy because Antinous is the first one he takes out. It made me laugh because I had predicted that he would actually have a chance to live, but no. I also thought it was cool when Athena comes out and helps the 4 of them defeat the rest of the suitors. I also thought it was pretty cruel yet awesome of Odysseus to have the un-loyal servant women clean up the blood and dead bodies and then he kills them. That was violation.
G: If I were a suitor I would feel pretty anxious to get out of that castle. Even more so I would be utterly terrified. I wouldn’t even want to fight; I would have no motor skills id be so scared.
B: I agree with hankmichels on this one. This chapter was the best ever, however there were some other sensational chapters like when Odysseus kills the Cyclops

D. “But Odysseus aimed and shot Antinous square in the throat and the point went stabbing clean through the soft neck and out and off to the side he pitched, the cip dropped friom his grasp as the shaft sank home, and the man’s life-blood came spurting from his nostrils-thick red jets-a sudden thrust of his foot-he kicked away the table.”I thought that the description in this quote was very interesting. This almost reminds me of the Hunger Games, that’s how gruesome it is.
E. “So spare your own people! Later we’ll recoup your costs with a tax laid down upon the land, covering all we ate and drank inside your halls, and each of us here will pay full measure too- twenty oxen in value, bronze and gold we’ll give until we melt your heart. Before we’ve settled, who on earth could blame you for your rage?” This quote seemed reasonable to me. They understand that they did wrong and they will pay the price, but Odysseus responds very weird in my opinion. “ No, Eurymachus! Not if you paid me all your father’s wealth- all you possess now, and all that could pour in from the world’s end- no, not even then would I stay my hands from slaughter till all you suitors had paid for all your crimes! Now life or death-your choice-fight me or flee if you hope to escape your sudden bloody doom! I doubt one man in the lot will save his skin.” I thought that Odysseus was very stubborn about this. The men said that they are sorry and they will pay him pack for all of the damage that they’ve done, but Odysseus doesn’t want that.
I. I agree with hank michels, this book was obviously the most important book in the Odysseus

E. First off I would like to say that this is one of my favorite starts to a book so far. At the end of book 21 Odysseus comes back strings his bow and arrow then shoots it perfectly once through the 12 arrows. In the beginning on this book right after Odysseus shoots the arrow through the axes he immediately turns around and shoots an arrow through the throat of Antinous. The crowd is in absolute shock because they think that this is an accident. Then Odysseus reveals his identity to the suitors. Their faces must have been priceless. He is finally back. I like Odysseus in this book and last book because he made 3 big moves in a matter of a few minutes.
G. I could only imagine the faces on the suitors when these three things happen. The first even is when Odysseus strings the bow and arrow and shoots it through the axes. I can see a shocked and impressed face on them with a little confusion asking questions like: Where did this guy come from?. The second event I am thinking of is when Odysseus shoots Antinous in the neck directly after shooting a bow through the axes. On their faces I can see so much shock that this happened. A man was just killed unsuspectingly right before their eyes. I can see a face of shock that wont go away for a couple of minutes. Lastly I can see the face of them when Odysseus reveals his identity. This face I like the most because os os a build up of so much shock that whatever face they make should go on a mask of some sort.
I. I agree with @hankmichalis in his letter E response.

E: I thought that the death of Melanthios was both disturbing, but also very funny at the same time. Disturbing: he had the die a very slow, painful, and extremely humiliating death. He had all of his major body parts cut off including his genitals, which made me shriver, but then he was just left there on the floor to bleed out and die. I do't know how long it took him to die, but I would never want to be in his situation. Funny: Melanthios was a big ass and seeing him die was probably the joyous things that has ever happened in this book. And it's not like he died a fast death too! Fantastic! What i also thought was funny was the way odysseus just washed his hands and walked away epicly like nothing even happened. G. If I was a suitor, I would literally be crapping my pants right now. You got this badass Odysseus running around the castle slaughtering and pillaging all of the suitors. I would either A. Stab myself or B. jump out a window. if I was Odysseus at this time, I would be having a good time. Nothing better than a morning pillage, or whatever time of day it was. B. This chapter was by far the most heart pounding chapter in the whole book. We were all expecting this too happen and we've waited 22 books! And it finally happends. Odysseus kills all the suitors in a very nice way.
