D: I thought it was funny how Circe gives Odysseus advice about how to negotiate his way throughout the obstacles he will face. It reminds me of the Priceline Negotiator commercials. How the Priceline guy is the best negotiator for flight deals, and then his daughter learns about negotiating and ends up outdoing him. We already know that Odysseus is a really great negotiator and that he is well with words, so I can only see Odysseus being like “Yea, I got this:”Also, I thought it was funny how Odysseus was told his men to bind him to the ship and tell them not to unbind him. Then ironically, he’s screaming for them to let him go. I know it was the sirens seducing him, but I still thought it was funny.
C: I’m confused, is the 6 headed monster part of the whirlpool or is it the whirlpool?
G: If I were Odysseus, I would have not killed the Sun Cattle. Even if it was the last result I feel like there could have been another outcome. Maybe the sun god was testing Odysseus and was going to reward him afterwards, or even just before they killed the cattle. This also brings me back to what I said in class before about how ironically when you tell someone not to do something they are 2 times as likely to do it. This just proves my point. To those who also know what I mean its seen a lot in television.

E. A character’s actions that I was surprised by was Circe. I was surprised on page 272 where she is saying that she will provide Odysseus and his men with an alternate route to get back to Ithaca without troubles or problems occurring. I am surprised by this because Circe was at first described as an evil person who would try to deceive people. However, she is doing the exact opposite. She is being kind, nice, and helpful to Odysseus and his men. B. I think that the encounter of Scylla and Charybdis on lines 253-281 is what gave Odysseus such horrible PTSD. The first reason to me thinking this is that these were not human. They were horrible beasts. Their very sight was horrifying and that even gods did not look at them. Next, the environment in which the two lived in was horrible too. They lived in huge cliffs. Around the cliffs were violent waters with terrible whirlpools and waves that sprayed water like a water park ride. The worst part was how the men were hauled off and destroyed. All the beasts had to do was as reach down and grab someone. They were swallowed whole. Odysseus even says that this was his worst experience on his voyage. C. Why exactly does Odysseus have to go through all these things to get home? He loses 6 of his best men! Is there not another, easier way to get back to Ithaca? Also, I noticed that Odysseus is very obeying of the things Circe says. Obeying is not what I expect from the great leader and warrior Odysseus. Does he listen to Circe just because that he now sleeps with her? Does she still have some underlying charm that keeps Odysseus coming?
