F. I can tell that Gregor and his sister must have a really strong relationship. She was the one who first made contact with him after the big scene the morning after his metamorphosis. She decided to come in and give him food. However, he did not like the milk and bread she initially gave him. Then she came in and gave him other scraps of food while nobody was awake or around. She often argued on his behalf like when his mother wanted to remove his furniture. His sister said not to that. Even when her father wanted to kill Gregor she begged for him to stop. Also she seems to be the only person who had not too terrible reactions to Gregor’s new appearance. She just jumped a little and exited the room. Meanwhile her mother fainted and her father decided to flip out and kill Gregor. E. I am quite upset by how Gregor’s father handled the situation of him escaping. He decided to kill Gregor by first trying to stomp on him. When he got away his father chased him around the house. He then began to throw apples at Gregor. One of them became lodged in his back and left Gregor unconscious (maybe dead?). I just don’t understand why his father would want to kill him. It is still his son just in bug form.
C. I am quiet confused about why Gregor’s family can afford numerous luxuries. They are supposed to be deep in debt ye they have a cook and maid. What is up with this? They have to save their money to pay off their debt!

F. The relationships between the characters in this story seem to be different for every family member. The strongest relationship there is in the story is between Gregor and Grete. This is shown mostly through Gretes actions like giving him food constantly. She also trys to make him more comfortable in his room now that he is a bug. So she moved all of his furniture and stuff. And this is shown when Gregor says that he was going to send her to music school to study the violin. The next stronger relationnship is between the mother and Gregor. She wants to see his condition but his sister and father wont let her. And the worse relationship is between Gregor and his father. This is shown when Gregors dad trys to kill him. C. I am still wondering on how the hell Gregor became a giant bug thing? So far in the story we have not heard of anything on how he has become a bug. Did he kill a bug on his way home and this is now Karma. Or is this maybe a blessing that was sent to get his family to work again and not just him. E. I think that what Gregors father did was a little uncalled for. That is his son in that bug form unless he has forgotten all about it. He didn’t even give his duaghter a chance to explain what happened. And how do you mix up escaping and attacking your wife, like seriously?

c. i realized the same thing with Gregor's family. I thought it was very peculiar that they have a cook and a maid that lives with them. Why is this? Are these luxuries not expensive? Maybe they are in debt because they use their money for the wrong things.
I. i agree with richteri16 "F. I can tell that Gregor and his sister must have a really strong relationship. She was the one who first made contact with him after the big scene the morning after his metamorphosis. She decided to come in and give him food. A. i really love how hooked the author got me. I was compelled to read on as Gregor started to make use of his new form.

I. In this part of the story, I feel driven further and further away from gregors parents. In fact I’m against them. In class, we talked about how gregor might be working as an indentured servant. But in this part, we find out that gregor has been working to provide for his family. But the question is; Why? His father is perfectly capable. It said in the story that he has become overweight and sluggish from sitting around. And its not like he couldn’t get a job! He ended up becoming a bank manager just like that! And his mothers excuse is asthma, which would be a sufficient excuse if she only could do labor jobs! She could go get an office job easily! The problem with this story is that gregors parents are lazy and they are forcing gregor to work for them.
E. going off of what I said above, I think that gregors parents are being punished for making gregor work. It seems that even though they are capable of getting a job, they are having their son live a horrible life so they can sit around all day. When gregor gets turned into a bug, I think his parents are being punished by having to go get jobs for themselves, and loosing their son in the process.
C. I wonder why Grete seems to be the only one who takes care of gregor? Even though she is terrified of him she continues to bring him meals. His parents, however, don’t do much, which probably goes to prove that they don’t care for him.

C. I really like the fact that Gregor's sister is doing things for him, but I dont like the fact that she decides things for Gregor. Why does she do that? Although Gregor cant talk and cant communicate with his sister, should she not have looked at Gregor first for confirmation? She moves Gregor's furniture and things out of the room. She randomly decides that because SHE thinks that it might help give Gregor some crawl space. Altough in the beginning, to Gregor at least, it seemed like a reasonable and good idea, they ended up taking EVERYTHING out of his room. Gregor's mom even says that they shouldn't take things out. Because when Gregor does return into the world he once knew, she wants him to feel as if nothing changed. One final thing that confuses me the most is Gregor's father. Why does he decide to kill Gregor just because he approached his family once? It isnt right to do that
A. I like the feeling of suspense. Kafka really knows well how to mix the suspensefulness of a story with drama and depressing themes. This chapter of the book started to talk about financial issues and real world problems that the family began to face. It made the chapter much more depressing. I also agree with him that what Gregor's father did was uncalled for.
I. I agree with John Wagner that the relationship between each family member started to change and grow in different ways that are unappreciated in that field and society. I also agree with him that what Gregor's father did was uncalled for.

C. I thought that it was very mean when he wakes up and sees a bowl of milk there. To me it seems like they are treating him like an animal, and they are not respecting him as their son. I am also sad that his mother just leaves him to eat alone. Although they do this, I find it funny how it was his favorite drink in the world, and now he can’t stand the taste of it. In addition, I feel like Gregor is worrying way to much about his family. HE TURNED INTO A BUG! I think he should get that handled before he worries about anything else. Although this, I feel happy that he is proud of his contribution to giving his parents money.
E. Why was Gregor’s parents so disappointed in Gregor and basically treated him like nothing. It seems like they only cared about him when he was getting them money. Why does Gregor still act like a child? Why does he never care about himself?\
D. “But Grete’s words had quite unnerved the mother; she took a step to the side, took in the huge brown splotch on the flowered wallpaper, and, before realizing what she saw was actually Gregor, screamed in a loud, harsh voice; ‘Oh God! Oh God!’ and collapsed, arms out flung in total abandon, onto the sofa and did not move.” I thought that this quote was sad, and funny. It was funny to me because after reading this I think of an old style comedy when old actors passed out to everything. On the other hand, I feel bad for Gregor because he now knows that his family thinks he is a creep.

C. I'm confused by the fact that they have no found a solution to this problem. Its been a day and a half im guessing and now their son is a roach. And they still act like nothing is wrong.
A. I really like how interesting this book is. the author really did a good job with the hook. If i new right a way that this was going to be about a roach i probably wouldn't have read it but he led up to it very well and i think the title really help, it gave it kind of a mystery.
I. I agree with michael genco's E i do think theyre parents are disappointed in him and treat him like nothing. theyre are afraid to even bring him food so his sister does it.

C. Gregor has a new life as an insect. Why doesn’t he just go and forget about his family? There’s no way that he can possibly support them now, being the fact that he transformed into an insect incapable of human tasks. His life is completely different, and he’s not even human! I believe Gregor should try and find a way to revert to his old self, because one day his family might mistake him for a real insect, and probably squish him to death. That would be really nasty. I. I agree with Dakota A response. The author has me sitting here like “I should keep reading. This seems interesting.” I’m pretty sure if you went to sleep to go to Xavier the next morning, and you wake up, then all of a sudden you’re a roach or something, I’m pretty sure you’d want to do some crazy things I guess. All I want to know is what Gregor is going to do with his life as an insect. H. Gregor, staring at the fresh milk and vegetables, had a different agenda today. He felt as if he was converted into a different style of life, like an enlightenment. He no longer wishes to eat what regular humans eat, and he seems disgusted by healthy food now. Uncertain as to why he changed so quickly, Gregor eats the moldy food with delight, and rejects what was, his favorite drink and meal. A change of heart can be a change of physical attributes as well.

E. I didn't like the scene that chapter had led off with and I think that the father is being very violent and i don't think that he needs to do what he is doing, Gregor was trying to go back in his room, but now his father is trying to kill him. How could he even do that to his own son even if he is this vermin. It should have been constructed a different way
D. I love the part where Gregor begins to become more comfortable. It really shows more detail than in the other chapter where that was discussed very vaguely. I also liked the part about his sister learning about how he is now after this transformation. It showed that she could adjust and if one person can adjust, then i think that eventually his mother and father might adjust. These scenes were simple and short but you have to enjoy the little things in life and look on the bright side, this happens when Gregor entertains himself by climbing all over the walls and the ceiling, it shows that it isn't a completely negative situation.
C. What is Gregor right now ? Is he now the size of an actual vermin or is he like a giant vermin compared to normal vermin bugs? it confuses me because if he were too large he would not be able to hide under the sofa, but if he were too small, then it would be kind of hard to stop him.

C. What is Gregor right now? Has he shrunk and become the size of an actual vermon or is he like a giant vermon compared to normal bugs? It confuses me because if he were too big, how would he hide hecause it isn’t possible in spots like under the sofa, but if he were too small, then it would be kind of hard to stop him.

C. Something I am confused about in this chapter is why Gregor would stay around his family, when he no longer has anymore responsibilities. He no longer has to be submissive towards his family, he can forget about all of them but he chooses not to. He chooses to stick around the slave like treatment, and be torrmented.
I. I agree with Hanks C response. Why is it that Grete is the only person who really takes care of Gregor. He has his family there all the time, bu they do practically nothing to help him
E. I did not like what Gregor's father did. He was first trying to kill him by stomping on him and then he was throwing pieces of apples at him. The father at this point knew that it was Gregor he was trying to kill, but he persistenly tried to kill him. I do not know why his father would continue these actions, but I did not like them at all

C. After Gregor has transformed, I am confused as to why he decides to stay around his family. I mean, if I were in Gregor's situation and I turned into a huge bug, I would get as far away from my family as possible. I wouldn't want to be around my family. I wouldn't want to traumatize them any longer than they needed. I feel that I would no longer be apart of the family at that point and I would just want to be alone.
I. I agree with what Hank said in his reponse to letter C. Why is Grete the only one taking care of Gregor? Does Gregor's family not want anything to do with him? Was Grete forced to by the rest of the family? Or is she truly concerned for Gregor's condition and she truly wants to care for him?
E. When Gregor's father tried to kill Gregor by stomping on him, I cringed. I thought that was so cruel and horrible. I understand his fear or misunderstanding of the situation but trying to kill something without any real reason is cruel and wrong. He had no reason to try to kill Gregor and his new body.
