B. This reading in significant in relation to the story because we finally learn how Odysseus’ journey started. Odysseus finally reveals his name to King Alcinous and the other inhabitants of the island. Odysseus tells that the left Illium and went to Ismarus and sacked the city. He sacked the city and made sure that all his men got a fair share of the loot. He wanted to leave but he described his shipmates as mutinous because they would not leave. His shipmates were too interested in continuing lotting. Other Ciocones started to unite and eventually banded together and forced Odysseus’ men out of the country. Zeus presented them with disaster and they were lucky to escape. C. I was confused at why Zeus would purposely put Odysseus in danger. I think it was possible that the people that Odysseus and his men were looting were followers of Zeus and they might have asked Zeus for help. Even after Zeus threatened them in the battle with the Cicones he massed stormclouds to hit Odysseus’ fleet with the north wind. This storm is a problem for Odysseus because the north wind drove him off course. If he was not driven off course he would have been home faster. D. I enjoyed the quote about the Cyclops closing the entrance to his cave with the stone. This quote just showed the massive size and strength of the Cyclops. “Then to close his door he hoisted overhead a tremendous, massive slab-no twenty-two wagons, rugged and four wheeled could budge that boulder off the ground.”

C. This part of the book is a little disappoining and confusing. Why does Odysseus suddenly turn into the bad guy of book nine. First we saw him as a hero who desperately wants to go home. Then he starts telling a story of him destroyin and stealing the goods of an innocent village. This leaves me to wonder if that was Odysseus really a good guy in the beginning? If so why does Athena help him so much? Another thing that confused me was when he went to the island of the cyclobs and entered its cave. Why did his men try to steal and eat the cyclob's food and materials? Did they not realize the consequences or were they being too overcondifent with themselves and thought they could take out the cyclobs in one hit?
H. The cave is humungous. It was the size of the roman colliseum only it was a dark cave. The sand under our feet became harder and harder, slowly shaping its way to form the stone that the cave consisted of. My men seemed to be a little nervous yet condfident in themselves. They were wearin light armor and a shield an sword. One man withdrew his sword and inched towards some food. It seemed to be the cyclob's food, yet my men all inched towards it. Then they started to stare and it and said that they are going to eat it. I did tell them to stop but they did not listen. They only stopped when the food hunter decided to join them.
I. I agree with Matt Baker about enjoying Odysseus's story. Odysseus tells a very interestin and unique story that only he could have endured. It is also shocking to hear and see what kinds of things this young hero has done. I also agree with other classmates about the fact that Odysseus appears to be a villian when attacking the innocent village. I dont like how he does that in the beginning of his story. It shows that Odysseus also has a very bad and negative side that sometimes can be very risky to trust.

C. In Book 9 of the Odyssey, I did not understand why Odysseus want to stay in the Cyclopes’ cave when everyone else was opposed to it? It’s completely ridiculous considering that he’s stealing the Cyclops’ food. As his crewmates beg him to leave, Odysseus says, “Not till I saw him, saw what gifts he’d give”. First of all it’s a Cyclops and second, you broke in to his home. If I came home and uninvited guests that I don’t even know eating my food, I would probably call the police. If they asked for stuff I would probably shoot them. Oddly enough, I’m on the bad guy’s side for once. D- The best part of book 9 in my opinion is when the Cyclops peeps Odysseus and his crew in the cave and when it asks Odysseus who he is, he says “Men of Achaea we are bound and now from Troy.” This shows that even though Odysseus is really stupid, he is brave and courageous as well when he needs to protect himself against giant creatures that could crush him with their fingers (Cyclops). B. I honestly feel that if Odysseus didn’t tell the stories on the island to his crew members on the island, Odyssey would not be as interesting or the same. We wouldn’t understand Odysseus’ past and what he was going to do on the Island. I think the story he’s going to make with Cyclops will tell us why he’s trying to go home so bad.
