A. Reading the article about treating PTSD with the Iliad and The Odyssey was very interesting. The article also talked about keeping units together so they can forma a bond and not just splitting troops up every deployment. I thought this made sense because when a soldier goes through basic training they are meant to bond with each other. However, if a soldier goes back for another tour they will sometimes be assigned to a different unit. Now they will have to get to know those people again and form new bonds.
C. I was confused at Odysseus’ reactions to the bard’s song. He specifically requested that the bard play a song about the war in Troy and then Odysseus begins to cry. Odysseus has not really said why he gets upset whenever he hears about the battle of Troy. We can only assume that he is upset at the people he knew who died or something he may have seen during the war.
E. Broadsea is an interesting character because he asks Odysseus to forgive him if he was offended in any way. Broadsea had challenged Odysseus to the games and when Odysseus declined he poked fun at him. After this incident though, Alcinous wants to give Odysseus more gifts before they go to dinner. He thinks that Broadsea should give Odysseus a gift and apologize for any wrongdoing. Broadsea gifts Odysseus a very ornate bronze silver-studded sword. I thought this was interesting because it said that Broadsea volunteered and was obliged to gift Odysseus. He then bids Odysseus goodbye and wishes him good luck. This shows me that it is possible that Broadsea was not intentionally trying to anger Odysseus before and it might actually have been an accident.
